DRESS GUIDELINES

One area that seems to be a constant discussion point and sometimes a battle line is the issue of dress.  We will do our best to outline the Biblical principles as well as the church’s guidelines on this issue.  Your assistance and support in this area is greatly appreciated.

Biblical Principles

1. MODESTY

This simply means decency in a manner not to lead astray; not drawing attention to the physical body, but to our countenance (face) and Christ’s purity; not being showy or attempting to bring attention to one’s self.  (1 Tim. 2:9-10)

2. STUMBLING BLOCK

This means to not do anything to cause our Christian brothers or sisters in Christ to sin.  We are not to wear clothing that may encourage others to lust or have impure thoughts.  (Rm. 14:12-13; Mat. 5:28)

3. DISTINCTION

That means easy to tell apart.  Christians need to live and dress in such a way that distinguishes them from the world. (Jn 15:19).  We are in the world, but are not to be OF the world. (1 Cor. 11:14-15).

4. APPROPRIATENESS

This is not a Biblical principle, yet it is one of the most important guidelines to follow. This   means suitable or compatible.  Certain types of clothing are appropriate for certain activities.  Bed time requires bed clothes, and play time requires play clothes.  Similarly, our church services and certain activities, require certain attire.  Let us keep a good testimony, for our Lord, in the community.

Ministry Dress:

There will be times that we will minister together as a youth group.  Whether it is out at a nursing home, or out canvassing for revival, it is important to have on the proper attire.  For these activities we will adhere to the same standards of dress that the MCA has instituted.

Young Ladies:

Modest dresses / skirts and blouses should be worn.  Girl’s tops should be long enough that no midriff would be seen even when arms are raised.

Young Men:

Collared shirt with khaki pants.  They should be neat and not sloppy.

SUMMER ACTIVITIES

***For the summer especially, we would like to encourage you to remember these words:

1.      LONG

2.      LOOSE

3.      LOTS!!!

Let all things be done decently and in order. I Cor. 14:40
